From First Steps to Big School Readiness

At Cheeky Cherubs Preschool, our learning environments are thoughtfully created to support children at every stage of their early learning journey. From our youngest Adventurers, who are beginning to build confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging, through to our curious Explorers, who learn through hands on play, creativity, and discovery, each space encourages growth at an individual pace. Our Investigators enjoy a more structured yet playful environment that supports school readiness, problem solving, and social development. Across all age groups, learning is play-based, nurturing, and guided by experienced educators who value curiosity, connection, and a lifelong love of learning.

18mths - 2 Years

Adventurers

Our Adventurers learning environment is thoughtfully designed to support curious 18mths – 2 year olds as they take big steps toward independence. With two qualified early childhood educators guiding a small group of just eight children, each child receives personalised attention, reassurance, and encouragement throughout their day. This nurturing setting allows educators to build strong, trusting relationships while responding closely to each child’s individual needs and interests. At this stage, children are developing confidence in themselves and the world around them. Our programme gently supports milestones such as toilet training, emotional regulation, and communication, helping children navigate big feelings and express themselves through language, imaginative play, and social interaction. Play-based experiences encourage exploration, problem-solving, and creativity while fostering early friendships and a growing sense of belonging. Through a balance of structured routines and flexible play opportunities, our Adventurers are supported to feel safe, capable, and confident. Families can feel assured knowing their child is learning and growing in a warm, supportive environment where independence is celebrated, curiosity is encouraged, and every small achievement is valued.

3 - 4 Years

Explorers

Our Explorers learning environment is thoughtfully designed to nurture curiosity, confidence and a growing love of learning. Supported by three experienced early childhood educators, children aged 3–4 years are encouraged to explore, question and discover the world around them in a safe, engaging and welcoming space.

At this stage, children are developing strong foundations for future learning. Through play-based experiences, they are introduced to early literacy and numeracy concepts such as colours, shapes, numbers and letters in ways that feel fun, meaningful and developmentally appropriate. Singing, dancing, painting, drawing, playdough, construction and shared reading are woven into daily routines, giving children plenty of opportunities to learn through hands-on exploration and creativity.

Each day brings new experiences that spark imagination and encourage problem-solving, communication and social connections. Our educators intentionally extend children’s interests through gentle guidance, thoughtful questioning and purposeful play, helping each child build confidence, independence and resilience.

In our Explorers environment, learning is joyful and child-led, supporting children to grow at their own pace while developing the skills, confidence and curiosity that will carry them forward on their learning journey.

4 - 5 Years

Investigators

In their final year before school, children in our Investigators programme are supported to grow in confidence, independence and capability as they prepare for the exciting transition to “big school”. Led by two experienced early childhood educators, this programme provides a nurturing yet stimulating space where children are encouraged to challenge themselves, build resilience and develop a positive attitude towards learning.

Educators intentionally plan and deliver meaningful, play-based experiences that support each child’s development across all learning areas. Individual strengths, interests and abilities are valued and extended, while essential school readiness skills are carefully nurtured. These include recognising letters and numbers, writing their name, listening and following directions, problem-solving, and working cooperatively with others. A strong emphasis is also placed on social development, helping children build emotional awareness, negotiation skills and respectful communication.

Learning experiences within the Investigators room are engaging, hands-on and responsive to children’s ideas and curiosity. Children are encouraged to ask questions, make choices and take an active role in their learning, fostering independence and critical thinking. This supportive approach helps each child feel capable, valued and excited about their next stage of learning.

Strong relationships with local primary schools play an important role in supporting a smooth transition to school. Cheeky Cherubs Preschool maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with school staff, sharing insights, progress and goals for each child. This thoughtful approach ensures every child is well supported as they take this important next step, giving families confidence that their child is ready for the journey ahead.
